The Admiral Group has consistently ranked as a top 5 UK insurer over the years. The core brand is served at www.admiral.com and they have been trading since 1993. This company is joined by Bell, Diamond, Elephant and of course Confused.com. The Group’s pre-tax profit tends to peak at £370 million and their user base sits at 4.2 million. Britain has always been their prime location served although they have expanded overseas to the likes of France and Spain. The insurers that generate higher levels of business have been the Direct Line Group, Aviva and LV. Admiral have been quite evenly matched with AXA. This French rival has been edging them out on comparison searches, through the main AXA brand and Swiftcover. There is no doubt though that Diamond and Elephant each continue to progress well. Unlike their big competitors noted above, things work differently here when it comes to underwriting. They do cover a portion of this, but there has been a long running agreement with Munich Re who underwrite 40% their business in the UK.
