Santander Login Review |

Santander LoginIt was never going to be easy for an overseas bank to venture into the UK and take on the Big Four. The Spanish banking giant has however managed to do just this. The acquisitions of Abbey National, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley made the key difference. The Abbey deal was penned in 2004, but the full Santander UK rebrand came in 2010. The high street presence of those brought in enabled them to roll out 1300 branches (there has been downsizing since then). Notable for customer acquisition was their 123 current account with 3% interest (unfortunately now 1.5%). They are also making great strides forward in finance noting their partnerships with Hyundai, Mazda and Volvo.

Banco Santander (established 1857) have 125 million customers (20.9 million digital) and 12,200 branches worldwide. Locally, they have 14 million active customers and 841 branches plus 67 regional corporate business centres. These stats were taken from a 2017 report. We’d consider Barclays to be their key competitor. These banks are similar big hitters on the global stage, although Banco’s market cap is much higher. In our recent online banking login comparison, Santander’s site ranked 3rd only edged out by 1) Lloyds and 2) HSBC. The UK is now Santander’s biggest market and so they’ll be hoping to continue their excellent track record moving forward. Could they become #1? Perhaps so, but dropping that 3% rate won’t have helped.
